Maze Runner the Choice Part 2

Thomas sat in the Dead Heads thinking. Teresa had made it clear how she felt, things would be different between them no matter who he chose. He didn't even know why he kissed Newt! It just felt right. But Teresa made him feel warm inside, and her touch was like an angel. Thomas found himself unable to think anymore and his watch told him it was dinner time. He hadn't realized how hungry he was until he thought of Frypan's food. That's what he needed, a nice warm meal.

He sat with Chuck, who as usual, couldn't stop talking. It was a nice distraction until he started talking about Newt.

"One of the gladers beat up Newt today! Alby found him in the bathroom with blood all over his face. Newt won't say who did it though, it's like he wants to protect the shank that did it!"

"Who do you think it was Chuck?" Thomas tried to act natural.

"I don't know. Everyone likes Newt, so it's hard to guess."

Thomas couldn't fall asleep that night. Why did Newt have to kiss him? Everyone knew he and Teresa were a couple. And what if Teresa told Alby what happened?

"Teresa?" He called to her in his mind. When she didn't reply Thomas tried again. "Teresa, I just want to talk!"

"Go away!" She yelled back. She wasn't making this easier. Thomas lay awake for what felt like hours, staring at the stars above his head, thinking of Newt and Teresa. They both meant so much much to him and he didn't want to ruin anything. Finally, he fell asleep.

The next day Thomas still wasn’t allowed to run, so he leaned against a tree at the edge of the Dead Heads and watched Newt talking with Winsten across the glade. He wasn't sure how he felt. Part of him wanted to still be mad at Newt for not letting him run. But the other part of him couldn't stop thinking about what Newt said. He only did it because he cared about Thomas. And the kiss. It felt...good, and fresh. Something he hadn't felt in a long time. It had just felt right to kiss him back. If Thomas knew Teresa was there, would he still have done it? Teresa and him were a couple, whenever Thomas wasn't out running or mapping they were together. And he really did care about her.

Again that night, Thomas couldn't sleep. He hated comparing his two best friends. Teresa had ignored him all day, and it seemed Newt felt embarrassed. He didn't know when, but somehow Thomas realized what he'd been thinking. He'd spent most of the day thinking about Newt, and how the kiss felt, why he kissed him back.he couldn't just ignore his feelings. But how would he tell Teresa?

The next day Thomas walked up to Newt in the field.

"Hey Tommy," Newt stopped working.

"Hey."

"Look, I'm sorry for the other day. If you want me to talk to Teresa, I'll tell her it's all fault. I shouldn't Have kissed you," Thomas didn't say anything. "You ok Tomm-" Newt couldn't finish his sentence because Thomas had taken his head, pulling Newt close and kissing him. When they finally pulled apart, Newt didn't know what to say. Then he was staring at something behind Thomas. Thomas turned to look and saw Teresa watching them.

"I'm sorry," he said her mind.

"I know. Goodbye, Tom." Teresa turned and walked away. Although he was sad, Thomas smiled at Newt and took his hand, lacing their fingers together.
