Happy New Year! Maze Runner Fanfiction

Happy New Year everyone! I don't have anything sappy to say other than just have a good year, spend your time living in the moment instead of worrying about the futcher. Here's the fanfiction I promised you! I warn you, my friend and I ship both Newt and Thomas with cheese (don't ask).

                  New Years Eve

“Come on Tom, we’re going to be late. Get off the couch!” Teresa stood in the doorway of the small living room with her hands on her hips.

“What do you mean? The party doesn't start for an hour babe,” Thomas said without taking his eyes off the tv screen.

“Brenda asked me if we could come early to help decorate, so I said yes. And I thought I told you not to call me that.” She crossed the room to Thomas and swatted him on the head playfully. He ducked and pulled his eyes from the screen to look at her.

It was all he could do to keep his jaw from falling open when he saw her dressed up in a dark blue dress that draped around her with a matching bag. It was simple, but a big change from her normal t-shirt and jeans. “You look… Amazing.”

She smiled and pulled the brunette to his feet. “And you don't, go put something else on!”

“Alright, alright.” Thomas disappeared for a minute and came back wearing a black polo and dress pants. “Better?”

“Yes, now we gotta go.”

Thomas and Teresa arrived at Brenda’s apartment building and went up to the second floor to her door.

“Hey Thomas, Teresa! Happy New Year!” Brenda held the door open and ushered them inside.

“Happy New Year Brenda!” Teresa smiled and looked around. The apartment wasn't big but it wasn't small either. There was a tv and three person couch in the living room, with a hallway leading to a bathroom and bedroom. In the other corner was a respectable sized kitchenette and table. There was a plastic bag of decorating supplies on the counter.

“So, what do you want us to do?” Thomas asked.

“Well, I got some streamers, and those spiral things that hang from the ceiling. I think there are a few folding chairs in the closet, Thomas.” He went to find the chairs and Teresa started rifling through the bag. The girls taped streamers and little decorations that said “Happy New Year!” all over the walls of Brenda’s apartment. When they finished, Brenda took a plate of cheese and crackers from the fridge and put it on the counter along with some soda and paper plates.

They all sat down just in time for a knock to come from the door. Brenda got up and answered it.

“Happy New Year!” Minho and Newt entered the room. Minho, who had refused to dress up wore a t-shirt and those big glasses that had the year on them. Newt wore a polo like Thomas, and had a paper bag in his hands.

“This is for the party,” Newt handed the bag to Brenda and went to greet his other friends.

“More cheese!” Brenda laughed and put Newt's plate of cheese on the counter.

“Good that!” Thomas smirked.

Frypan was the next to arrive, bring his special chilly dogs. Soon everyone had arrived, and they sat around the room laughing and telling stories. They all had hotdogs, and Thomas was devouring too much cheese. It had been a long time since everyone had got together, and there was feeling of home in the air.

The minutes ticked down and everyone gathered around the tv to watch the New York ball drop. Chuck, who had fallen asleep, had to be waken up. Thomas put his arm around Teresa’s waste as the tv started counting down from ten.

“3, 2, 1!”

The giant, silver ball was released and everyone yelled “HAPPY NEW YEAR!” Thomas scanned his friends, Harriet and Sonya laughing, Newt and Minho sharing a gaze that said everything, Chuck jumping circles around Aris. He took all of this in before turning face to face with Teresa. He closed his eyes, and shared their first New Years kiss.
