The Second Chance Part 7
Friday at lunch, Thomas and Newt asked their friends to meet them in a quiet hallway. They had everything planned out, even had a plan B if something happened. But Newt couldn't stop the butterflies from swarming his stomach. Now everyone stood in said hallway facing the two best friends.
“What are we all gathered here for?” Alby asked.
“We, ah have something to tell you,” Thomas swallowed, hard.
“Well, you’ve told us that already,” Minho smirked. Newt knew we was just joking around but he couldn't help getting a little annoyed, doesn't he know how hard this is to say?
“Like he said, we have something to tell you. And we don't you guys to be mad that we didn't say it before,” Newt started.
“Tell us what guys?” Teresa asked, now getting worried.
“We, ah.”
“Tommy- I mean Thomas and I are sort of-”
“Dating.”
“Each other,” they finally got it out. There was silence and Newt was beginning to think they hadn't heard them. He was about to repeat it when Minho cracked a smile.
“It's about time you two got together! I didn't want to say anything, but Thomas is always staring at you Newt!” He grinned and slapped the blonde on his back as Thomas blushed.
“You’re a good looking couple too,” Frypan added.
“So, you guys aren't mad, or disgusted at us?” Thomas questioned their friends.
“Of course we aren't Tom. Why would we be?” Teresa smiled. Neither boy had a good answer to that.
“Let's go eat, I'm starving!” Frypan said as he led the group to their usual table. Thomas and Newt weren't treated or looked at differently by their friends, but they knew it was only a matter of time before people like Gally found out. By the end of the day it seemed as if the whole school knew, Thomas and Newt were gay. Most people didn't care or know them, but there were always some who seemed offended or disapproving of them. The worst was when Newt ran into gally and his gang, on his way to the last class of the week.
“Hey shank, what are you looking at? See something you like?” The bully smirked and stood in Newt’s way.
“Just let me through Gally,” Newt sighed as he stared at the ground.
“Hum, I don't think I want to,” he said, blocking his path again.
“Hey, what's going on Gally?” Thomas ran up behind Newt and glared at the other boy.
“Look Newtie, your boyfriend’s here to save you! How cute. What’cha gonna do Thomas?”
“Shut up Gally!” Thomas clenched his fist in anger.
“Look, I don't have time for this. Just bloody let me through and then we don't have to talk to each other!” Newt tried to reason with him.
“Aww, you don't want to talk to me? Am I not as fun as your little Thomas here? I'm offended!” Gally complained, sarcasm dripping from his mouth. Thomas stepped forward, but Newt stopped him before he could do anything. The bell rang and all their spectators ran to class.
“Come on guys, we gotta go. Sorry to end our little chat Newt!” Gally and his gang walked away, leaving Newt and Thomas alone in the hallway.
“Shuck, I'm late now,” Newt whispered under his breath as he started speed walking to class.
“Hey Newt,” Thomas jumped to catch up. “Don't listen to him. He's just trying to get on your nerves.”
“Yeah? Him and the other half of the population!” Newt said without looking at Thomas.
“I know. It'll pass though, I'm sure. Just, don't let them get to you. Ok?” Thomas grabbed Newt's arm to make him stop.
“Ok,” Newt smiled and gave Thomas a peck on the cheek. “Gotta go now.”

When the last bell rang Newt made his way to his locker and then car. As he approached, he could see the silhouette of Thomas leaning against the passenger door.
“Hey, we’re giving Sonya a ride too so we have to wait for her,” Newt said, unlocking the car.
“She doesn't have her art club today?” Thomas asked.
“Nope, oh here she comes.” Sonya stomped up to the car and yanked the door open. “Hey, what's wrong Sonya?” He asked his little sister.
“Explain. Now you two.” She humphed.
“What do you mean? Explain what?” Thomas turned to look at her in the back seat.
“Explain why you thought it was ok to tell the whole school that you're dating, and not even tell me!” She almost yelled.
“Sorry Sonya. I didn't think about it. Now what’s the real reason you're mad?” Newt talked as he drove.
“...Thomas, you were always like a brother to me. And Newt you are my brother! And now now you're dating?!” She finally answered.
“Sonya I, I don't know what to tell you,” Thomas replied sadly.
“Then don't,” Somya jumped out of the car as soon as Newt pulled into the driveway.
“Well… Your house I guess,” Newt left his backpack in the car and walked across the lawn with Thomas at his side.
“What do we do about her?” Thomas questioned.
“Nothing. It's not like we’re going to break up just because she wants us to. She's a girl, and my sister. All she needs is time,” Newt smiled at Thomas. He wasn't too worried about Sonya. They went up stairs to his room and closed the door. Newt plopped on Thomas’s bed and brought his legs up to his chest.
“What do you wanna do?” Thomas sighed as he dumped his backpack on the floor.
“I don't know,” he replied.
“You look pretty comfy there Newt,” Thomas grinned.
“Yes, I am…?” He answered, questioning his boyfriend’s intentions.
“Good!” Thomas suddenly jumped onto the bed and faced Newt. He raised his hands threatenly.
“You wouldn't dare,” The blonde said as he realized what was going to happen.
“Oh yes I would!” Thomas began his work before Newt could say another thing. He tickled his neck first, prying his fingers through when Newt raised his shoulders in defense.
“To-Tommy! Haha! Stop it!” Newt laughed as he kicked out his legs in a struggle to get away. Thomas took the opportunity and ticked Newt’s stomach through his thin sweatshirt. He tickled him all over until he himself was getting out of breath. Newt lay on his back panting, his sides and stomach ached. He was sure he had probably kicked Thomas sometime in an attempt to get away, but he didn't feel too bad. The boy deserved it.
“Bloody hell Tommy, if you ever do that again!” He threatened half heartedly. But he knew he could never do anything to Thomas. He remembered hanging out with Thomas at a young age. They were always together, at parties, events, even their first dates were double dates. Where there was Thomas there was Newt and vise versa. And then Newt had realized he liked Thomas in a different way. It took him so long to find the courage to tell him. Sonya and Gally may not like it, but Thomas was his boyfriend. And that was that. He wasn't going to change just because they wanted him to. Newt sighed peacefully and grinned at Thomas. His lovely Tommy.
